Muryoji temple

Muryoji temple is the only temple in Kushimoto district of Kushimoto town. The official name is Kinkoji-san imperial monastery. It was originally in the Fukuro district in Kushimoto town. However it was swept away by the Tsunami of the Houei earthquake, and it was rebuilt in the present location in 1786. At that time Nagasawa Rosetsu brought a “Fusumae painting” by Maruyama Oukyo as a celebration of the reconstruction of the lost temple. He came all the way form Kyoto. Together with the “Fusumae painting,” he also drew a lot of his own paintings. Among the the famous painting of tiger and dragon “Ryu-ko-zu”, we can feel the full of dynamism. These pictures are designated as an important assent of the country.
